Why mineral

Mineral does the work. Nothing extra along for the ride.

There are two ways to block the sun: minerals that sit on top, or chemical filters that soak in. We chose the one we are happy to put on our own kids.

The difference

Mineral vs chemical, plainly.

Mineral

What we use, zinc oxide
  • Sits on top of skin and reflects UV away
  • Broad-spectrum UVA and UVB from a single mineral
  • Works the moment it goes on
  • No oxybenzone or octinoxate, so it is reef-conscious
  • Gentle enough for sensitive and young skin

Chemical filters

What we skip
  • Absorb into skin to soak up UV
  • Several are named in studies and reef bans
  • Often need to go on well before sun
  • Can irritate sensitive skin
  • The trade we did not want to make
We use non-nano zinc on purpose. Larger particles that stay on the surface of your skin, not designed to sink in.

Non-nano simply means the zinc particles are large enough to sit on top of the skin rather than being engineered to penetrate it, which is what most parents and label-readers are looking for. It is the workhorse of clean sun care: one mineral, full broad-spectrum cover.

We pair it with a light oil base so it spreads and rubs in without the heavy, pasty feel mineral sunscreens are known for.

The clean standard

What we leave out, and why.

No chemical filters

No oxybenzone, octinoxate, or the other absorbing filters families ask us about.

No fragrance

Nothing added to scent it. One less thing for sensitive skin to react to.

Reef-conscious

Skipping the filters most often named in reef bans, so a day at the water is kinder.

The honest label

What's in it. What's not.

What goes in

  • + Non-nano zinc oxide
  • + Light, skin-loving oils & esters
  • + Broad-spectrum UVA & UVB protection
  • + Vitamin E, to keep it fresh

What stays out

  • Chemical UV filters
  • Added fragrance & parfum
  • Titanium dioxide
  • PEGs and aerosol propellants
